Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation is a world leader in the design, manufacture and service of military and commercial helicopters; fixed-wing aircraft; spare parts and maintenance, repair and overhaul services for helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft; and civil helicopter operations.
Sikorsky has many quality engineering teams, but is sometimes overloaded with new product development efforts and other engineering obligations. In these cases Sikorsky relys on trusted outside resources, such as Neoventus, to expand their team. Sikorsky gathers large data-sets from aircraft sensors during test flights under various conditions. This data is then analyzed to understand performance limitations as well as to determine other parameters that can be derived from the data.
Neoventus performed data analysis for Sikorsky in order to determine whether some desired parameters of their aircraft could be inferred from existing sensors. Using MATLAB, Simulink, and Sikorsky’s data, Neoventus was able to determine that the desired parameters could indeed be derived with no new hardware required. With existing sensors and real-time processing, the aircraft parameters can be determined with acceptable fidelity.
